USA women’s hockey stars join men’s team on ‘SNL,’ make Trump joke

USA women’s hockey stars Hillary Knight and Megan Keller joined men’s stars Jack and Quinn Hughes on “Saturday Night Live,” with Knight getting in a jab at President Trump during actor Connor Storrie’s opening monologue.

The Hughes brothers were already on stage with Storrie when Knight and Keller joined, getting an extended round of applause.

“It was going to be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys, too,” Knight said.

The joke was a reference to Trump, who called the men’s team following their gold medal victory over Canada and invited them to the White House. Trump then said he’d “have to bring the women’s team” too or risk being impeached, drawing laughs from the players.

While the vast majority of the men’s team attended Trump’s State of the Union address, the women’s team — which also won gold in a 2-1 overtime victory over Canada — declined the invite.

Knight also got in a second joke during Storrie’s monologue, after Quinn Hughes noted it was the first men’s hockey gold medal for the U.S. since the Miracle on Ice in 1980.

“The last time we did that was two whole Olympics ago,” Knight said, referring to the women’s 2018 triumph in Pyeongchang.

The gold medalists were part of a hockey theme, with Storrie hosting “SNL” for the first time after starring in the HBO Max series “Heated Rivalry” about two hockey players with an on-ice rivalry and off-ice secret relationship.
