Van driver faces DWI charge after colliding with FDNY truck in Queens


An accused drunken driver was in police custody after barreling head-on into an FDNY ladder truck on a Queens street early Sunday.

Jimmy Lealecheverria, 41, crashed a van into a Ladder Co. 143 truck at the corner of 115th St. and Jamaica Ave. in Richmond Hill shortly after 6 a.m., authorities allege.

Three firefighters and Lealecheverria were hospitalized with minor injuries, FDNY officials said.

Lealecheverria, of Harrison, N.J., was charged with driving while intoxicated.

A man, suspected of being drunk behind the wheel of a white panel van and heading eastbound on Jamaica Avenue, crashed head on into a FDNY truck that was at a standstill facing westbound at 115th Street in Queens on Sunday.
