An 18-year-old male was repeatedly shot outside a Kentucky driver’s license office by a group of masked assailants, who also gunned down two women in what authorities are calling a “deliberate act.”
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified all three victims late Friday night, hours after the gunfire erupted in Louisville.
Police were called to the local Driver Licensing Regional Office, located just north of Dixie Highway and the Gene Snyder Freeway, right around noon. When they arrived on the scene, they found 18-year-old Leslye Harbin Jr. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the coroner’s office. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Two women, 33-year-old Antwanette Chillers and 29-year-old Raysa Pacios Valdes, were also struck in the chaos. They each suffered a single gunshot wound and were rushed to University of Louisville Hospital, where they died a short time later.
Authorities have not said whether the victims knew each other nor if they knew those responsible for the violence.
Jalen Eddings told local station WHAS that he was in the parking lot when the shooting unfolded. He said there was a line out the door when he arrived at the office, so he returned to his car to wait it out shortly before he saw two masked men shoot Harbin multiple times, including while he lay on the ground.
“I was just in shock, I couldn’t believe it, it was like something off of a movie,” Eddings recalled, saying he saw the gunmen shoot Harbin “in the stomach, in the chest, probably about seven times … [then] in the head at least two to three more times” before fleeing the scene.
Eddings said he did not see what happened to the other victims.
Aaron Ellis, a spokesman for the police department, said on Saturday he had no updates to share about the search for suspects. Police previously said they do not believe there is a threat to the public at this time.
The deadly violence marked the second triple shooting to occur in the Louisville metro area in less than a week’s time, WAVE 3 reported. On Monday, three teens were shot at an apartment complex in Shively. That gunman also remained at large as of Saturday.
