Wanted suspect identified in 2024 shooting death of 24-year-old Brooklyn man

NYPD cops have identified a suspect wanted in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man outside the victim’s Brooklyn home more than a year ago —and are asking the public’s help tracking the accused killer down.

Jahmal Grant, 38, is wanted for the murder of Maurice Boodie on Strauss St. near Newport St. in Brownsville, police said Wednesday.

Grant allegedly shot Boodie in the chest and right leg about 12:10 a.m. May 12, 2024, before getting away.

Medics rushed Boodie to Brookdale University Hospital, where he died about an hour later.

Friends and family visiting the block after the shooting referred to Boodie as “Mo,” with one cousin calling him “a very good person.”

It’s not clear what sparked the shooting. Grant at the time was living around the corner from the victim.

The shooting took place a half-block away from a double murder at a West Indian restaurant on Strauss St. on Oct. 27, 2022. In that incident, workers Eyon Johnson and Damien White were shot. Sawandi Galara, 46, was arrested for the killings in February 2023 and charged with murder.
