Weezer bassist’s wife avoids jailtime

Best-selling author Jillian Lauren, who is also married to Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has been spared jail time in connection with an incident that allegedly saw her brandish a firearm at Los Angeles police officers.

Instead, she was granted permission to undergo a two-year mental health diversion program, which will require that Lauren participate in regular counseling and submit to random drug and alcohol testing, Rolling Stone reported. She’s also barred from possessing a firearm.

If she completes the program, a judge is slated to dismiss the two felony charges filed against her in connection with the altercation.

The chaos kicked off the on April 8 around 3:25 p.m., as California Highway Patrol descended on Lauren’s Eagle Rock neighborhood in search of three hit-and-run suspects who police said fled from the scene of a nearby traffic accident. Authorities at the time believed the suspects were hiding out in yards in the area.

Their pursuit led them to the backyard of a house, toward which one of the suspects was last seen running. Moments later, 51-year-old Lauren appeared in the yard of her neighboring home, gun in hand.

Authorities said they ordered Lauren “to drop the handgun numerous times,” but she repeatedly refused. She then allegedly “pointed the handgun at the officers,” prompting at least one cop to fire their weapon, striking her in the shoulder. She then ran back inside her house and reemerged with her hands raised roughly 30 minutes later alongside her babysitter.

Lauren was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. She previously pleaded not guilty to felony charges of willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
