Last Saturday night, the internet talked.
Now, a lip reader is setting the record straight on what Morgan Wallen seemingly said before he exited the “Saturday Night Live” stage after being a musical guest on March 29.
“Thank you all so much,” he said, Nicola Hickling told UNILAD. “I had a wonderful time.”
Per the expert, host Mikey Madison then replied: “Chatting to you was really good.”
Hickling also shared what Colin Jost reportedly said to someone next to him.
“You gotta remember how he is feeling,” the 42-year-old “Weekend Update” co-host allegedly said onstage.
After quickly hugging the “Anora” actress, 26, Wallen walked off the set before the final credits rolled.
The country star, 31, then shared a picture to his Instagram Stories showing an airplane on the runway with the caption: “Get me to God’s country.”
“SNL” cast member Kenan Thompson voiced his confusion at Wallen’s abrupt exit.
“I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that,” the star, 46, told Entertainment Weekly on Monday. “I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.”
“You see somebody before you get a chance to say hi or say good job or anything like that, they just dipping,” continued Thompson. “I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something… Seems like a complicated individual, I guess.”
According to sources close to NBC, per TMZ, “there’s no bad blood” on the sketch show’s end with Wallen.
From the network’s perspective, Wallen walking off the stage during the credits was “just an awkward moment.”
The insider added that the “Last Night” artist wasn’t “offended” by anything said during the episode.
According to the outlet, Wallen “had been on the ‘SNL’ set since Thursday and he knew all the jokes that were in the show.” The sources noted that “there was no tension” between the Nashville resident and the cast.
This isn’t the first time Wallen has run into issues with the late-night NBC show.
In October 2020, his “SNL” performance was canceled after footage surfaced that showed him partying despite the show’s strict COVID-19 protocols.
Wallen later apologized, but was replaced by Jack White as the musical guest. Two months later, he officially made his “Saturday Night Live” debut.
