Amid controversy surrounding the abrupt cancellation of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” and Trump calling for Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon to similarly be fired, the White House is warning that the “The View” could be digging its own grave by criticizing the president.
The ABC morning show often takes shots at Trump, who’s made it clear he’s not a fan of the long-running series. The talk show especially seemed to grab the attention of the Trump administration on Wednesday when co-host Joy Behar claimed the president is jealous of his predecessor, Barack Obama.
“Obama is everything that he is not: Trim, smart, handsome, happily married,” Behar said, adding that Obama is also a good singer.
The relationship between the two presidents came into view this week when Trump accused Obama of “trying to lead a coup” to keep him out of the White House in 2017.
Obama’s team responded by indicating Trump is merely attempting to distract the public from the recent Wall Street Journal reports linking the president to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Behar seemingly agreed with Obama’s office, and instead accused Trump of being the one to lead a coup.
“First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6? Who was that again? That was not Obama,” she said, referring to the deadly insurrection on the U.S. Capitol in 2021.
White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers told Entertainment Weekly that if Behar doesn’t watch her step, ABC might get rid of her program much the same way CBS announced its decision last week to end “The Late Show” next May.
“[Behar] should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air,” Rogers said in a statement that also alleged the ratings for “The View” are nearing a historic low.
“The View” didn’t address Taylor directly, but told Entertainment Weekly the show is currently “ranking No. 1 in households and total viewers among all network daytime talk shows and news programs for the fifth straight season,” adding that it’s pulling in its highest figures in four years.
The president has lashed out at the female hosts of “The View” numerous times in the past. In October, while campaigning in Pennsylvania, he called them “dumb,” “demented” and “disgusting.”
In response, co-host Sunny Hostin thanked the president for “telling so many lies and committing so many alleged crimes” that provide the show with “material on a daily basis.”
