A multi-level parking garage partially collapsed Wednesday morning in White Plains, N.Y.
“Emergency operations are now being conducted in the area of 44 [South] Broadway,” the White Plains Public Safety Department said on Facebook. “Both fire and police are assessing a partial collapse within an area of the parking garage. This has forced multiple road closures.”
The fifth floor of the garage reportedly fell into the fourth floor shortly after 9 a.m.

Witnesses said the collapse occurred in the garage connected to the Westchester One building. Images from inside the garage show multiple cars crushed under a huge concrete slab.
As of Wednesday afternoon, it was unclear what caused the collapse. While the fire department said at least 14 cars were in the collapse zone, no injuries had been reported and a search did not turn up any trapped people.
Fire crews have placed support poles and jacks on the first floor of the garage to stabilize the structure and prevent further damage, as responders work to determine the integrity of the 12-story garage. Officials are still waiting for engineers to determine when it will be safe for cars to be removed from the collapse zone.
White Plains Police Commissioner David Chong said during a press conference on Wednesday that a 911 caller witnessed the incident.
“We are blessed that there wasn’t someone inside,” he said.
Multiple roads around the scene were closed as a result, and people have been asked to avoid the area.
The Westchester Mall and Sonesta Hotel are also nearby.
