Maya Rudolph’s sketch didn’t quite hit the funny bone.
The comedian, 53, revealed that she and former President Barack Obama were set to appear alongside Amy Poehler and Darrell Hammond in an “SNL” sketch.
However, the bit was pulled from the show.
“It was a sketch where you and [Darrell] were Hillary and Bill Clinton at a Halloween party,” Rudolph recounted on Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast earlier this month.
“I remember Barack was new on the scene, looking smooth. And at that time, I think Barack Obama masks were popular, because he was the new candidate.”
According to the actress, “the joke was going to be that I come in like, ‘I’m Barack Obama!’ and then he taps me on the shoulder with his mask and takes the mask off and he goes, ‘Oh my God, it’s the real Barack Obama.’”
The sketch was supposed to air during Season 33, episode four in 2007 but it got axed during dress rehearsals.
“We did that at dress,” Rudolph continued. “And that was it. We did not do it at air. Thank God.”
“Why?” Poehler, 54, inquired about the sketch getting cut. “Do we know why?”
Rudolph has an idea of what went wrong.
“I mean, I did not have a take on Barack Obama at all,” she explained. “I remember the first time we saw each other was when we were about to walk out onstage. I’m there waiting in my little Brooks Brothers suit, and I think we bound my boobs, and I used to play Scott Joplin, so I had my Scott Joplin wig on and I was standing there…”
Rudolph confessed that she “didn’t have a good impression” of Obama, 64.
“[He] came over and I said, ‘Well, what do you think?’ And all he said to me was, ‘I don’t wear a three-button suit.’ I still don’t know what that means. That’s like a guy knowledge thing.”
The sketch also included Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Bill Hader, Simon Rich, and Jason Sudeikis as different Democratic representatives.
Instead, the episode included a sketch of Obama attending the Clinton’s Halloween party as none other than himself.
Sudeikis, 50, debuted his impression of Joe Biden, while Poehler, 54, appeared as Hillary Clinton.
Rudolph starred on “SNL” from 2000 to 2007. She has hosted the show three times and has played Michelle Obama on the NBC variety show.
She now stars in the Apple TV+ comedy “Loot,” which debuted in 2022.
The series aired its Season 3 finale on Dec. 10 and follows the life of Molly Novak (Rudolph) after she divorces her husband of 20 years and ends up with a $87 billion settlement.
Joel Kim Booster, who portrays Nicholas on the show, gushed to The Post about working alongside Rudolph.
“One of my biggest core memories of working with Maya is when we were shooting season one, I had just started dating my fiancé. And I remember I was so anxious about it,” the comic, 37, recalled. “I remember talking to Maya about this incessantly the first season when we were shooting, and she gave me so much great advice, and she barely even knew me at that point.”
Rudolph, who has been in a longterm relationship with partner Paul Thomas Anderson since 2001, was eager to help.
“She’s Maya Rudolph,” expressed Booster. “I had no business peppering her with questions about how to make it work, but she’s been in a very long, successful relationship. I thought it was very sweet that she actually engaged with me and actually gave me advice.”
And Rudolph’s advice was very simple. The “SNL” alum told her co-star: “Chill out.”
