Why you won’t see Ashanti and Nelly’s son on new reality series

Ashanti and Nelly are giving fans an inside look at their lives in the new reality show “Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together,” but don’t expect to get a full glimpse of their son onscreen.

The “Foolish” singer says she and the “Country Grammar” rapper decided they wouldn’t show the face of their 11-month old son, Kareem, on the upcoming Peacock series.

“There was no hesitation. I knew I was not gonna show my son,” Ashanti explained at the American Black Film Festival. “He is blurred out, but you see him and I just feel like I’m kind of like a mama bear already, you know? Very protective. And I just feel like, I didn’t wanna show my son to the world.”

“I haven’t even posted him on Instagram or anything like that,” she continued. “I just feel like those moments are very sacred to me, and we’ll make the decision on when he’s ready to pop out and show.”

Ashanti announced her pregnancy in an Instagram video on April of last year, teasing that she’d need “nine months” before getting back onstage. The couple welcomed their baby that July.

The new mom told E! News she’s “feeling amazing” in this new chapter of marriage and motherhood.

“My life has completely changed for the better,” she said. “I feel full, you know? My cup is full.”

Nelly and Ashanti first dated from 2003 to 2013, then reconciled a decade later in early 2023. Though they didn’t announce their wedding at the time, public records show they tied the knot on Dec. 27, 2023.
