The pregnant wife of slain NYPD cop Didarul Islam has given birth at a Manhattan hospital, officials said Monday.
Mayor Adams joined the widow, Jamila Akhter, at Mount Sinai Hospital Sunday night after she went into labor and planned to stay with her until she gave birth, which she later did.
Didarul was one of four people killed last month at 345 Park Ave., a Midtown office skyscraper, on July 28 by Shane Tamura, who drove from his home in Las Vegas and opened fire as soon as he entered the building, police said.
Tamura then shot himself, leaving behind a suicide note in which he said he had CTE, a brain injury a number of NFL players have been diagnosed with, and asked his brain be studied for the disease.
Tamura played high school football and police believe he targeted the building because it is home to NFL headquarters.
One man shot and wounded by Tamura in the lobby works for the NFL, but police believe his true intent was to take an elevator to one of several floors that house the NFL. Instead, he went to the 33rd floor, killing a Rudin Management associate before killing himself.
Islam was promoted to NYPD detective at his funeral. He and his wife had two young sons already.
