A 24-year-old woman was crushed to death by a Manhattan L train after she jumped onto the subway tracks and then couldn’t get back onto the platform, police said Tuesday.
The woman was on the platform at the 14th St-Union Square stop when witnesses saw her jump onto the tracks about 10:20 p.m. Monday, cops said. It wasn’t clear why the woman jumped.
A moment later, a train entered the station, witnesses told police. The woman scrambled in vain to get back onto the platform but was struck by the train and died at the scene.
The victim’s name was not immediately released.
L train service was suspended for nearly three hours as police investigated.
