Woman dead, 2 police officers injured in Boston-area dog attack

An elderly Massachusetts woman is dead after being attacked by a dog in her Roxbury neighborhood home.

That pit bull also mauled a second person in the residence before biting two police officers outside the building around 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to NBC News in Boston.

Grainy doorbell cam footage appears to show the dog going after the officers outdoors. Cops reportedly shot the dog, who was later euthanized. They believe the other two victims were the dog’s owners.

All four bite victims were treated at an area hospital. That’s where the female victim died from her wounds Tuesday morning. Police later identified her as 73-year-old Jeriline McGinnis. The police officers’ injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin told local station WHDH the dog wasn’t present when his officers began tending to the victims.

“While they were there, the dog returned and attacked the two officers,” he said.

Three other pit bulls in the home were reportedly placed under supervision by the city’s veterinary medical director in adequate condition.

A neighbor who lives in the building where the attacks began knew the dead woman and her dogs.

“They had too many dogs,” she said. “And they put them in cages.”

The victim was described as an animal lover.
