A woman died in a bizarre East Harlem hit-and-run early Sunday when she was struck and dragged by an SUV driver after trying to jump into the back seat, cops said.
The 37-year-old victim tried to enter the rear of the white SUV while it was stopped on E. 118th St. and Third Ave. about 2:15 a.m., cops said.
The driver peeled off, dragging her several feet as the SUV went east on E. 118th St., cops said.
Medics took the woman to Harlem Hospital but she could not be saved. Her name was not immediately released.
The driver sped off and has not been caught. Cops are still trying to determine if the victim knew the motorist and why she tried to get into the SUV.
