A woman was found dead at a golf course in an upscale neighborhood in Livingston, N.J., authorities said Tuesday.
The woman, whose identity has not been confirmed, was found by a worker at the Cedar Hill Golf Course on Walnut Street just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Authorities believe she may have been there for days. The cause and manner of death are pending the results of an autopsy.
The employee who found the body was chasing off deer around 8:45 a.m. when he smelled a foul odor, the facility’s general manager told PIX 11 News. He then went into a wooded area where he made the grisly discovery.
Authorities removed her body late Tuesday morning, NBC New York reported.
Cedar Hill Golf & Country Club is described as a “premier members-only golf and country club located in Livingston, N.J.,” roughly 25 miles west of Midtown Manhattan.

“This is a tragedy and Cedar Hill sympathizes with the family of the individual,” the statement read in part. “We want to thank the Livingston police department and Essex County prosecutor’s office for their prompt response.”
