A woman found dead beside a Georgia highway was run over by her own minivan, according to authorities.
There were no witnesses other than a truck driver who discovered the woman’s body on a northbound entrance ramp of Interstate 75 on Sunday morning, the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. An empty minivan was found nearby.
The woman “exhibited evidence of having been run over by an automobile,” the sheriff’s office said. “A minivan, later confirmed by a family member to have been in the victim’s possession, was found a short distance away, in gear and with the motor still running, lodged against the guardrail.”
Investigators deduced that the woman, who was 25, had gotten out of her Honda Odyssey minivan on the right shoulder but “without putting it in park,” state police told The Miami Herald.
“The driver was subsequently run over by her own vehicle and succumbed to her injuries,” they said.
Police did not identify the woman, who was discovered in Resaca, about 75 miles northwest of Atlanta, but said she was “determined to not be a local resident.”
While officers “found no evidence of foul play or that any other person was involved,” an investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
