Woman passenger, 18, clings to life after falling off moped in Bronx crash; driver speeds off

An 18-year-old girl was fighting for her life after being thrown off the back of a moped during a Bronx crash early Saturday — a crash her heartless moped driver raced away from, cops said.

Police said the moped driver sped away from the 3:45 a.m. crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway, just north of the Whitestone Bridge, leaving the young woman to die on the road. The driver remained on the loose Saturday, officials said.

Six others involved in the multi-vehicle crash were also hospitalized with minor injuries.

The young woman was riding on the back of a moped heading north on the parkway near the Bruckner Blvd. exit when a Honda Accord trailing behind them collided with a Honda Pilot.

The struck Pilot vaulted forward, ramming into the back of the moped and knocking the woman onto the asphalt, cops said.

The moped operator stopped briefly but raced away before first responders arrived, officials said.

The teen suffered multiple injuries to her body and was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where she remained in critical condition on Saturday.

Three people in the Pilot, including the driver, and three passengers in the Honda Accord were also taken to Jacobi Medical Center with minor injuries, cops said.

The driver of the Honda Accord refused medical attention, cops said.

No arrests were filed as members of the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad probed the crash. All the northbound lanes to the Hutchinson River Parkway were closed for several hours as police investigated.
