Woman whacked with cane by antisemitic stranger on Brooklyn subway platform

A 29-year-old Jewish woman was whacked with a cane by a stranger spewing antisemitic slurs who followed her onto a Brooklyn subway platform and screamed at her to go back to her country, police said Tuesday.

Cops are investigating the attack as a hate crime and have released cell phone footage the woman took of the suspect in the hopes someone recognizes him.

The victim had just entered the Kings Highway Q train station in Midwood when the stranger, who was walking with a cane, stormed up and started cursing at her about 12:45 p.m. June 12.

“Go back to your country,” the man screamed as he followed the woman from the mezzanine to the southbound platform.

When the woman pulled her phone out to record him he lashed out further, striking her in the hand with his cane before walking off.

The woman called the police but didn’t require medical attention.

The suspect is described as white and between 55 and 65 with a medium build. He was wearing a multicolored collared shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers and carrying a black book bag.

The NYPD has seen an uptick in antisemitic crimes since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas War on Oct. 7, 2023.

Mayor Adams last month said that displays of antisemitism in New York City since the Hamas war have been “constant.”

While the NYPD saw a 54% drop in anti-Jewish hate crimes in May compared to the same month last year, from 52 to 24, the number of antisemitic incidents amounted to nearly 60% of all hate crimes investigated that month, officials said.

Anyone with information on the Brooklyn attack is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
