Woman who stabbed classmate for ‘Slender Man’ disappears

Morgan Geyser, one of two girls who tried to kill a classmate in 2014 to please fictional horror character Slender Man, was on the loose Sunday night after cutting off her ankle bracelet and disappearing from her Wisconsin halfway house.

“Officers are searching for a woman who cut off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and left a group home Saturday night,” the Madison Police Department said in a statement accompanied by a photo from security footage. They said she’d last been seen around 8 p.m. Saturday with an “adult acquaintance,” adding, “her whereabouts are unknown as of Sunday morning.”

Geyser, now 22, was 12 at the time of the attack, as were accomplice Anissa Weier and victim Payton Leutner. The two had been charged as adults for luring Leutner to a park in suburban Waukesha, Wisconsin, after a sleepover. Weier egged Geyser on as she stabbed Leutner 19 times, missing a major artery by a millimeter. They told police they had done it to please Slender Man, who they thought was real.

Leutner survived by crawling to a bike path after her so-called friends left her bleeding in the woods. A passerby found her and called for help.

Both girls took plea deals and were remanded to a psychiatric hospital. Weier was released a few years later. Earlier this year Geyser was granted conditional release after experts testified that she had made solid progress in her mental illness treatment.

Geyser’s attorney, Tony Cotton, issued a plea to his client via Instagram Sunday evening.

“It’s in her best interest for her to turn herself in immediately and not continue with this course of action,” Cotton said. “We don’t know any of the facts about what happened or who might have assisted her.”
