Cops have recovered the body of a dead woman floating in the Hudson River off of downtown Manhattan — possibly the same person who jumped into the river two days earlier and never resurfaced, police said Thursday.
The grisly discovery was made around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday when onlookers spotted the body near Canal and West Sts. on the lower West Side, police said.
An NYPD Harbor Unit boat was called in to remove the body from the water and bring it to shore.
The woman hasn’t been officially identified, but investigators believe it’s the same individual who was seen jumping into the Hudson River on Tuesday morning.
During that incident, a woman in her late 30s to early 40s was seen around 10 a.m. on Pier 34, right near where the body was later found. Onlookers watched in surprise as she stripped off her clothes and plunged into the water.
Two good Samaritans jumped in after her, but the woman slipped under the surface and didn’t come back up.
First responders helped the two men out of the river. They were uninjured.
In an unrelated incident earlier on Wednesday, the body of a man was recovered in the waters off of Staten Island’s Howland Hook Marine Terminal between the Goethals and Bayonne bridges to New Jersey.
The Port Authority removed the body from the water and was trying to identify the victim, officials said.
