A man found mortally stabbed at a Brooklyn homeless shelter was a staff member employed by the facility’s not-for-profit operator, cops said.
Police responding to a 911 call for an assault found 35-year-old Robbie Miller wounded in the lobby of the E. New York Ave. shelter near Dean St. in Ocean Hill around 10:20 p.m. Thursday, cops said.
Medics rushed the shelter worker to Brookdale Hospital with lacerations to his neck and abdomen. He could not be saved, said police.
A police investigation revealed the victim was stabbed on the street outside the shelter and that he fled inside the building following the attack, cops said.
No arrests have been made.
The shelter is located in a former Days Inn by Windham Brooklyn operated by a third party under the city’s Department of Homeless Services.
DHS released a statement Friday published in an ABC report.
“Our hearts go out to Mr. Miller’s family, friends and colleagues, and we stand ready to support them every which way we can during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read. “Our not-for-profit providers’ frontline staff step up every day to support vulnerable New Yorkers and we are grateful for Mr. Miller’s service.
“Even though this incident took place outside of the shelter premises, we are working closely with the authorities to support the investigation and ensure the perpetrator is swiftly brought to justice.”
