The Yankees are trading for another hitter.
The team is acquiring Austin Slater from the White Sox, according to multiple reports. The YES Network’s Jack Curry first reported the deal, adding that pitching prospect Gage Ziehl is going to Chicago.
A nine-year veteran, Slater has played all three outfield spots, as well as some first base in his career. The 32-year-old has a .721 OPS overall this season, but an .859 OPS against lefties. All five of his home runs are against southpaws.
With the Yankees having already acquired another weapon against lefties in the righty-swinging Amed Rosario, Slater gives the Yankees some depth and flexibility in their outfield. He could share time with Jasson Domínguez in left field or play right while Aaron Judge is on the injured list/DH’ing against lefties when he returns.
