With spring training days away, the Yankees officially invited 27 non-roster players to big league camp on Thursday.
Among the non-roster invitees, or NRIs, are some of the Yankees’ top-10 farmhands. That includes shortstop George Lombard Jr. and pitchers Carlos Lagrange and Ben Hess, who were each recently named top-100 prospects by Baseball Prospectus.
While Lombard attended major league camp last spring, Lagrange and Hess will be first time attendees after ending up at Double-A last season.
Another starter, Elmer Rodríguez, and outfielder Spencer Jones, two other notable Yankees prospects, are on the club’s 40-man roster and were already coming to big league camp.
There are a few veterans with major league experience on the NRI list as well. Those of note include infielders Paul DeJong and Zack Short, infielders/outfielders Seth Brown and Marco Luciano, and reliever Dylan Coleman.
With the Yankees currently projected to roster three lefty-swinging catchers in Austin Wells, J.C. Escarra and Ben Rice, they also invited four backstops who hit from the right side.
The team’s full NRI list is below:
Catchers: Abrahan Gutierrez, Payton Henry, Miguel Palma, Ali Sánchez
Infielders: Paul DeJong, George Lombard Jr., Jonathan Ornelas, Zack Short
Outfielders: Kendy Corona, Duke Ellis
Infielders/Outfielders: Seth Brown, Marco Luciano, Ernesto Martínez Jr.
Pitchers: Michael Arias, Brendan Beck, Kyle Carr, Harrison Cohen, Carson Coleman, Dylan Coleman, Alexander Cornielle, Yovanny Cruz, Drake Fellows, Bradley Hanner, Ben Hess, Adam Kloffenstein, Carlos Lagrange, Travis MacGregor
A NEW CLAIM
The Yankees also claimed right-handed pitcher Osvaldo Bido off waivers from the Angels on Thursday. Infielder Braden Shewmake was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
Bido has had a busy offseason on the waiver wire, as he’s also been on the rosters of the Braves, Rays and Marlins. The 30-year-old has pitched in 58 MLB games, including 28 starts. He has a 5.07 career ERA overall and a 4.57 ERA as a reliever. Bido had a rough 2025, but he ranked in the 93rd percentile or better in 2024 for expected ERA, expected batting average against, exit velocity, Barrel% and Hard-Hit%.
He’s another flier type for the Yankees’ uncertain bullpen if he sticks around.
