Yankees trade Oswald Peraza to Angels: reports

Oswald Peraza‘s tenure in New York is over.

The Yankees traded the struggling infielder to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday and quickly replaced him by trading Everson Pereira to the Rays for infielder Jose Caballero, according to multiple reports. In return, the Bombers received minor-league outfielder Wilberson De Pena and international money, per NY Post’s Joel Sherman.

The reported deal comes a week after the Yankees acquired third baseman Ryan McMahon in a deal with the Colorado Rockies. And with Anthony Volpe cemented as the Yankees’ starting shortstop, the writing on the wall became clear for Peraza.

However, with Volpe’s defensive struggles — MLB leading 16 errors — led to the Yankees’ search for insurance and landed on Caballero. The 28-year-old leads the MLB with 34 stolen bases. Caballero has played 140 innings at shortstop during his three-year career.

This is a developing story. Check back for more details.
