It may not be the end.
“Yellowstone” is currently airing the second half of Season 5, which was announced as the final season of the hit ranch drama.
But, not so fast.
Costar Ian Bohen, who plays the ranch worker Ryan, told The Post, “It’s not necessarily” the end.
Currently airing (Sundays at 8 p.m on Paramount Network), “Yellowstone” follows the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana, including patriarch John (Kevin Costner) and his adult children, mellow Kayce (Luke Grimes), villainous Jamie (Wes Bentley), vicious Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Beth’s cowboy husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).
Grimes told The Post that the ending is, “Profound, beautiful. Heartbreaking.”
According to Paramount, 17 million viewers tuned into the first half of Season 5.
Costner, 69, left “Yellowstone” before the second half of Season 5 amid a flurry of rumors about an alleged feud with showrunner Taylor Sheridan.
Spoiler alert — in the premiere episode for the second half of Season 5, “Yellowstone” unceremoniously killed John off.
It turned out that John was fatally shot by a hitman, but it was staged as a suicide.
Beth and Kayce both didn’t buy the official ruling that it was suicide, and Beth was sure that Jamie did it. She was mostly right, but Jamie’s culpability was indirect as his love interest, lawyer Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), orchestrated it, to Jamie’s apparent shock and dismay.
Fans were outraged at how the show wrote off Costner.
“John Dutton deserved to go out like a gladiator, not a victim. Completely undoes the series. I’m not a fan at all how #Yellowstone handled Costner’s departure,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“If THAT’S how they decide to end a great character like John Dutton… THAT’S BULLS–T,” another person said.
In August, multiple outlets reported that “Yellowstone” may return for a Season 6 with a story that would reportedly focus on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.
If there was a season focusing on the husband and wife duo running the ranch, Ryan works closely with Rip. So, Bohen would be a major character in a potential Season 6.
Puck was the first to report the news. The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Deadline subsequently verified the story.
Paramount never officially confirmed or announced a Season 6.
Bohen also didn’t officially confirm it, but he coyly told The Post that the story of “Yellowstone is “continuing; it’s a saga.”
But, there are also numerous “Yellowstone” spinoff shows, including an upcoming one called “The Madison” starring Michelle Pfeiffer.
Bohen added, “Maybe there’s a future that you want to continue,” implying that the reports of a Season 6 about Beth and Rip were true.
When asked if he’d heard about the future of the show, Bohen said, “I have,” but he declined to reveal anything else. “We’ll have to see what unfolds,” he teased.
