Michael Kay and Joe Girardi predicted Anthony Volpe’s eighth-inning home run on Saturday night in the most improbable of fashions.
Speaking on the YES Network broadcast, Kay pointed out that the Atlanta Braves’ run totals against the Yankees in the previous five innings were 1, 4, 2, 1, 0, which is a zip code in Buffalo.
“So you’re saying that Volpe’s gonna hit one to Buffalo right now?” Girardi asked.
Kay replied, “With a long drive, deep to left.”
On the very next pitch, Volpe drilled a 411-foot home run over the left-field wall, tying the game in the top of the eighth.

“Long drive, deep to left,” Kay said, breaking into his home-run call. “[Jurickson] Profar turns, looks, see ya to Buffalo!”
That set up Trent Grisham’s go-ahead grand slam in the top of the ninth, leading the Yankees to a 12-9 win at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Volpe also hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, giving the third-year shortstop the first multi-homer game of his career. The first of Volpe’s home runs snapped a 12-for-100 skid.
Volpe, 24, now has 12 home runs, while his 53 RBI rank fourth on the team and are seven shy of his career high.
“Just to feel like you contributed and helped the team in a game like tonight, it feels really good,” Volpe said after Saturday’s win.
