YouTube star WhistlinDiesel was arrested this week in Tennessee for felony tax evasion allegedly related to a car he purchased nearly three years ago.
The 27-year-old internet personality, real name Cody Detwiler, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, law enforcement sources told TMZ. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail on two felony counts of tax evasion in connection to a 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo he purchased in early 2023.
Per an indictment obtained Friday by Nashville ABC affiliate WKRN, Detwiler is accused of “unlawfully and willingly” attempting to evade state sales tax he owed on the Ferrari, would could have amounted to tens of thousands of dollars.
The content creator was released from custody later on Wednesday on $20,000 bond, the station reported. He’s set to be arraigned on Nov. 19.
Detwiler shared news of his arrest on Instagram, including reposting a story that showed him being walked away by police.
“I didn’t do ANYTHING,” he wrote in the caption of that post.
Detwiler — who boasts 10.1 million subscribers on YouTube, and 5.6. million on Instagram — is known for destroying vehicles in his videos. Among them is a summer 2023 stunt involving a Ferrari F8 and a rental minivan both burning in a field.
“I regret to inform everyone that my $400,000 Ferrari F8 and rental minivan with only 5,000 miles on it has recently burned down to a pile of ash,” Detwiler captioned the video, viewed over 16 million times. “This was a complete accident and I originally intended on filming so many more things with the car, but this was a great lesson to do even more crazy things before your car catches on fire.”
