When it comes to the “Vampire Diaries” cast, this family will forever be bound by blood.
Although fans said goodbye to Mystic Falls in 2017 after eight seasons of the hit supernatural drama, Zach Roerig, who played Matt Donovan, revealed that they do keep in touch.
“Most of them actually,” the actor exclusively told The Post at the premiere of his upcoming Western “Day of Reckoning” on Monday. “Matt Davis is one of my dear friends. Michael Trevino, he’s ‘Uncle Michael.’ Ian [Somerhalder]. Everybody.”
The “Dare Me” star did reveal that there is no specific group chat for the bloodsuckers, though.
“There’s not a group chat, per say,” admitted Roerig, “but we stay in touch.”
The CW series also starred Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Candice King and Kat Graham. After the show ended, Roerig appeared in three spinoffs for the network.
The first spinoff of “The Vampire Diaries,” titled “The Originals,” premiered in 2013 and ran for five seasons before the town of Mystic Falls gained a new generation of protectors in the second spinoff, “Legacies.”
The show aired on The CW from 2018 to 2022.
In 2017, after the OG series went off air, Roerig reflected on landing the role of Matt.
“I’d done pilots before and I was still a pretty young actor — I was 24 when we shot the pilot,” he recalled to Entertainment Weekly at the time. “I remember being in Vancouver with Ian [Somerhalder]. I tested with Ian and I just thought he was Captain Cool. I’d seen him do a play in New York and I was just enamored by the guy.”
As Roerig put it, “In the hair and makeup trailer, Ian’s like, ‘Hey, kid, get ready for the ride of your life.’ I locked it in because I felt the wheels spinning. I was like, ‘I think this is going to happen.’”
Now, with his days of hanging out with vamps behind him, the actor is taking on the dirty South.
The “As the World Turns” alum stars in the new Shaun Silva-directed Western “Day of Reckoning” alongside Billy Zane and Cara Jade Myers.
“I have always been drawn to the genre,” Roerig shared at the premiere. “I grew up watching Westerns with my father. The script overall was just exciting — the depth, the layer of the characters. It was a lot of fun.”
In the action-packed feature, the star revealed, “yes, most of us were doing our own stunts.”
Roerig added, “That was very exciting. Rehearsal, precaution, safety. It was great.”
When it comes to future projects, the “Field of Lost Shoes” vet would like to explore the world of supernatural once more — but this time as a superhero, perhaps.
“I’d love to be a superhero, probably Marvel,” he confessed. “Well, you know, Matt was a human, he wasn’t a vampire. So like a superhero that is like a vampire would be the human tick!”
“Day of Reckoning” hits theaters March 28.
