Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived to his White House meeting with President Trump wearing a sports coat, slacks and button-up shirt after being ridiculed by MAGA media for sporting military-inspired fatigues during his contentious visit in February.
The wardrobe change didn’t go unnoticed by right-wing pundit Brian Glenn, who badgered Zelenskyy in the Oval Office during his previous visit to discuss his country’s need for weapons as it continued to fight off Russian invaders who attacked Ukraine in February 2022.
“You look fabulous in that suit,” Glenn remarked on Monday.
Zelenskyy acknowledged that he recognized Glenn as the cable news personality who mocked him during his previous visit and turned the tables on his tormentor during a light exchange.
“You are in the same suit,” the Ukrainian leader said. “I changed. You did not.”
Zelenskyy’s new outfit was made by Ukrainian designer Viktor Anisimov, who told Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) his team was working on a new look for their leader in January, but thought the Ukrainian president would stick with his previous aesthetic following the White House undressing.
“After what happened in February, knowing our president’s principles, I thought that he would not want to change his style,” Anisimov said.
But according to the designer, he continued working on a new look for Zelenskyy and the 47-year-old leader rolled with the changes.
Anisimov, who’s run a designer label for nearly 30 years, presented his collection at Berlin Fashion Week for the first time in July. His new styles were “inspired by the designer’s recent work on a capsule wardrobe for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” according to Ukrainian Fashion Week organizers.
WWD said the full collection will be unveiled next month during Ukrainian Fashion Week.
