Far-left candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) were projected to win at least four House races, expanding the number of socialist lawmakers in the lower chamber from two to six.
The House’s current DSA darlings – Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) – cruised to re-election in their respective races as well.
Joining them in the next Congress from the radical flank of the Democratic Party will be:
- Melat Kiros, a Gen Z socialist who received a whopping 78.3% of the vote in Colorado’s solidly blue 1st Congressional District.
- Chris Rabb, a DSA national and AOC endorsee who trounced his independent opponent in Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District by a 93% to 7% margin.
- Claire Valdez, a supporter of nationwide rent control who garnered 83.1% in New York’s solidly blue 7th Congressional District.
- Darializa Avila Chevalier, a staunch critic of Israel who cruised New York’s 13th Congressional District race with 87.5% of the vote.
- Donovan McKinney, who ousted two-term Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District Democratic primary, also appeared poised to dispatch GOP longshot TP Nykoriak in his race.
“I hope everyone can sit back and take it in tonight a little. At a base line, the socialists presence in Congress will soar to heights unseen in over a century,” DSA communications co-chair Aron Ali-McClory posted on X. “We are contesting in places that’ve been written off for decades.
“It’s only a beginning, but let the light in!”
Lefty streamer Hasan Piker hosted several DSA Democrats, including Rabb and Kiros, on his livestream before the results came in.

“Of all the people the DSA could have chosen to host its official election night livestream, it chose Hasan Piker, someone who proudly expresses support for terrorist organizations and traffics in antisemitism,” Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, fumed on X. “Let that sink in.
“The DSA isn’t distancing itself from this kind of rhetoric. It’s elevating it. When someone tells you who they are, believe them.”
Of the 221 DSA-backed candidates running in federal, state and municipal races, the organization counted 42 winners as of press time, with most races remaining too close to call.
In the nation’s capital, socialist mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George easily won her race to replace outgoing Mayor Muriel Bowser.
In Providence, DSA member David Morales – who defeated an incumbent mayor in the Democratic primary – was elected to lead Rhode Island’s most populous city.
The biggest blow to the DSA came in Florida, where socialist Democratic candidate Angie Nixon narrowly lost her Senate race against incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.).
Moody eked out a 3-point win in the special Senate race to serve out the remainder of Marco Rubio’s Senate term.
