Texas teen newly signed up for Air Force killed in jet ski hit-and-run

Authorities in Texas have arrested the alleged driver of a jet ski that fatally struck an 18-year-old fresh off her first year at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School, officials said Tuesday.

Ava Moore was kayaking near Oak Park Cove on Grapevine Lake — a reservoir about 20 miles northwest of Dallas and northeast of Fort Worth — when the collision occurred Monday evening, according to a joint statement from the Texas Game Wardens and the Grapevine Police Department.

Moore was pulled from the waters with significant trauma and transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Authorities said two women, a driver and passenger, were on the jet ski at the time of the deadly crash. The passenger remained on the scene and spoke with first responder’s, while the jet ski driver, identified as Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez, managed to flee the scene.

She escaped in a vehicle driven by an unidentified adult male, who struck another nearby car in his apparent race to dodge law enforcement.

Gonzalez was arrested on Tuesday while her unidentified getaway driver is still wanted for questioning.

According to a GoFundMe page in support of Moore’s family, she had “just returned from Colorado Springs after finishing her 1st year at the Air Force Preparatory School.” Before that, she was “an outstanding student” and star basketball player for Fort Worth Timber Creek High School. She graduated in 2024.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the Texas Game Wardens probing the circumstances leading up to Moore’s death. Grapevine Police are also looking into the hit-and-run involving Gonzalez’s getaway car.
